Follow-up to #549, which had to drop
.agent/skillsbecause theimport/copybaracheck fails on new hidden directories.Architecture & Copybara Strategy
Google's internal source tree (
google3) does not use leading dot directories for skills. However, coding agents on GitHub (Claude Code, Antigravity, Gemini CLI) expect skills under their respective dot directories (.claude/skills/,.agent/skills/,.gemini/skills/).To bridge this cleanly:
Phase 1 (This PR):
internal-runtime-usage,pom-dependency-change,runtime-e2e-tests,runtime-jar-deps) under a regular top-levelagent_skills/directory without a leading dot.google3without failing the import check.Phase 2 (Bi-directional Copybara rule in
google3):google3to map paths bidirectionally:google3➔ GitHub): Rewrites non-dot directories ingoogle3to.claude/,.agent/,.gemini/on GitHub, placing them where agents natively discover them.google3): Reverses the mapping, taking contributions made in.claude/,.agent/, or.gemini/on GitHub and syncing them back to the corresponding non-dot directories ingoogle3.Git Tracking &
.gitignore:.claude/,.agent/, and.gemini/will be version-controlled, tracked directories in Git on GitHub managed by Copybara, they must not be listed in.gitignore..gitignoreis left unmodified.Transition / Local Usage:
google3, developers can point their local tools toagent_skills/via a local uncommitted symlink (e.g.mkdir -p .claude && ln -s ../agent_skills .claude/skillsormkdir -p .agent && ln -s ../agent_skills .agent/skills).google3, Copybara will export them to the standard dot directories directly on GitHub.CONTRIBUTING.mdandagent_skills/README.mdto document the layout and Copybara synchronization strategy.
