Make schema-free persisted options compose with createCollection without an explicit never schema argument.
Also reject local utility names that persistence would silently replace with incompatible functions.
A typed source without a schema can now use the documented composition:
Previously, schema inference contaminated the result with StandardSchemaV1<unknown, unknown> and caused TS2769.
Both schema-free overloads now return never as their schema parameter.
Schema-bearing options retain schema input for inserts and schema output for reads.
Local persistence adds acceptMutations, getLeadershipState, and forceReloadSubset.
Previously, a caller utility with one of those names kept its TypeScript signature while persistence replaced its runtime function.
The wrapper now throws InvalidPersistedCollectionConfigError before persistence resolution when local caller utilities contain a reserved property.
This includes inherited properties and values of undefined.
Callers must rename conflicting custom utilities.
Synced wrapping preserves the adapter namespace because that path adds no local persistence utilities.
The SQLite guide documents this admission rule.
The shared oracle replaces fixed type examples with generated rows, keys, utility signatures, schema configurations, and construction forms.
Its schemas accept their output as input, as the schema guide requires.
Exact comparisons retain optional and readonly modifiers and distinguish schema input from output.
Core and browser runners share both the type model and the new runtime admission judgment.
Fixed regressions supply inputs to the shared checker without separate expected answers.
ORC-016 makes this requirement explicit in the rubric, authoring skill, and agent guidelines.
🔬 Oracle Coverage
The coverage map names the owner and its limits.
The versioned audit records authority, review dispositions, replay inputs, and calibration outcomes.
The calibration helper reproduces hostile controls without changing production files.
Law: Preserve admitted row, key, utility, and schema contracts.
Schema input accepts output, and published rows retain declared modifiers.
Local caller utilities cannot use the three persistence-owned names.
The public Collection contracts and SQLite/schema guides supply authority.
Reach: Four type campaigns run 48 generated histories and compile 2,520 constructions, plus 630 replay constructions.
Each declared type state reaches 12 histories per campaign, including readonly input/output and compatible schema input.
Four admission campaigns run another 48 histories and 6,912 wrapper constructions.
All ten admission states reach 12 histories per campaign on both receivers.
RED: The original schema-free implementation fails TS2769 at public Collection construction on both receivers.
Before the guard, real core/browser wrappers admit reserved names and resolve persistence.
Schema-free and schema-bearing histories both expose that admission defect.
GREEN: Core passes 13 checks, including nine neighboring type tests.
Browser passes four campaigns.
Final schema-bearing admission campaigns pass with no source errors.
Three existing local utility and manual-transaction runtime checks also pass.
Mutant: The expanded model rejects readonly stripping, schema-role erasure, and the obsolete output-rejection assertion.
Admission rejects the old wrapper, an absent guard, guards limited to own/truthy properties, and a guard missing one reserved name.
Earlier audits retain the broader key, utility, callback, option, and diagnostic controls.
Limits: Type evidence uses source exports with TypeScript 5.9.3, Vitest 3.2.4, and fast-check 3.23.2.
Runtime evidence stops at wrapping and observes admission, utility identity, error identity, and resolver work.
It establishes no SQLite I/O, schema parsing, publication, native-host behavior, emitted declaration consumption, or other compiler version.
✅ Checklist
I have tested this code locally with pnpm test.
Focused campaigns, neighboring type tests, three existing runtime checks, formatting, ESLint, lint:changed, and diff checks pass.
The full pnpm test command did not complete locally during the earlier Electron fixture run because navigator.locks was unavailable.
All CI checks pass at 6826665af, including PR tests, E2E, Preview, the benchmark, and security checks.
Browser E2E passes after a retry for slow Ubuntu package downloads that exhausted the first run's timeout.
The latest CodeRabbit review covers fc51cb35a.
The final documentation commit adds its requested browser receiver flag.
An earlier CI run also exposed an ordered-replay counterexample in unchanged query code.
Its seed is 1596947796, path is 229:2:5:5:4:4:4, and property is replay.ordered-window-faults.
This PR does not fix that separate runtime counterexample.
The production bundle grows 64 gzip bytes and 29 brotli bytes against the merge-base on fetched origin/main.
The guard reuses the existing persistence utility object instead of adding a second name registry.
Tests and documentation account for the larger source diff.
🚀 Release Impact
This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).
The existing patch changeset records both the type correction and reserved-name rejection for @tanstack/db-sqlite-persistence-core.
Fixed TypeScript type inference for persisted collection options when no schema is provided, including when those options are passed to collection creation.
Validation
Local persistence now rejects caller utilities named acceptMutations, getLeadershipState, or forceReloadSubset before resolving persistence. Other custom utility names remain available, and this restriction does not apply to synced collections.
Documentation
Clarified the local-persistence utility restriction and expanded contributor guidance on type coverage and oracle reviews.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Schema-free persisted option overloads now return results with the schema type set to never. Local persistence rejects caller utilities that use reserved names. Generated type and runtime oracles check the behavior through core and browser entry points.
Changes: Persisted options and oracle coverage
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Update persisted option types and local utility validation packages/db-sqlite-persistence-core/src/persisted.ts, .changeset/bright-cups-infer.md, docs/guides/sqlite-persistence.md
Schema-free sync and local-only overloads now use never for the schema type. Local persistence rejects acceptMutations, getLeadershipState, and forceReloadSubset in caller utilities before resolving persistence.
Generate persisted option type and admission checks packages/db-sqlite-persistence-core/tests/persisted-options-type-oracle.ts, packages/db-sqlite-persistence-core/tests/persisted-options-type-oracle.test-d.ts, packages/*-sqlite-persistence*/tests/persisted-options.test.ts
The generated oracle checks persisted option types and utility admission for core and browser receivers. It covers generated schemas, keys, utilities, configuration, and reserved utility properties. The previous standalone type-test file was removed.
Register and calibrate oracle campaigns packages/db/tests/oracle-config.ts, packages/*-sqlite-persistence*/package.json, package.json, scripts/calibrate-persisted-option-types.mjs
Core and browser oracle tests are registered in package scripts and the static registry. The calibration script defines type and runtime mutations and supports selected, replayed, and full campaigns.
Contributor guidance excludes ordinary unit tests and standalone concrete assertions from oracle files. Coverage and review documentation describe the generated checks, campaigns, findings, and limitations.
TanStack/db#2255 reports the schema-free persistedCollectionOptions composition failure with createCollection; this change updates the corresponding overload types and adds generated coverage.

Return never for the schema type in both schema-free overloads.
Law: Wrapped options must give createCollection the config's row, key, and
utility types, as in docs/guides/sqlite-persistence.md's wrapping example
and the browser package README.
Reach: Eight fixed core cases cover local/synced options, inferred/explicit
type arguments, and string/number keys. Two browser cases check the public
export. Assertions check insert, get, and utility types.
RED (original verification): The expanded checks report TS2769 in four core
calls and two browser calls against d2935d0.
GREEN: 17 core and 2 browser type tests pass.
Mutant (original verification): Using TSchema in either result type makes
both inferred-key tests fail.
Limits: Fixed source-level type checks do not establish runtime behavior
or published npm resolution. The full pnpm test attempt hit Electron
fixture failures with navigator.locks unavailable and was stopped.
Type-check commands from the repository root:
pnpm --dir packages/db-sqlite-persistence-core exec vitest run --typecheck.only --coverage.enabled=false tests/persisted.test-d.ts tests/persisted-options-type-oracle.test-d.ts
pnpm --dir packages/browser-db-sqlite-persistence exec vitest run --typecheck.only --coverage.enabled=false tests/persisted-options.test-d.ts
Delete the two fixed type-test files and replay their inputs through one
independent model and compiler comparison. Add contextual schema inference
alongside the existing construction paths and prohibit unit tests in oracles.
Law: persistence wrapping preserves schema input/output, exact keys and user
utilities under the public composition contract.
Reach: all declared paths, including schema-contextual-key, reach 12 histories
per campaign on each receiver. Four campaigns exercise 48 histories and 1,464
generated constructions, plus shared regression inputs.
RED: the parent implementation fails TS2769. A contextual-row mutant survives
the initial migration but fails the expanded callback type comparison.
GREEN: core and browser fixed/fresh campaigns and harness typechecks pass;
all nine neighboring core persistence type tests pass.
Mutant: ten wrong designs reject across thirteen receiving checks, including
key widening, utility erasure and contextual-row inference loss.
Limits: source-level TypeScript 5.9.3 evidence only. Runtime, built declarations
and package resolution are outside this claim. The cached baseline dependency
setup prevents bundle-size measurement; emitted runtime JavaScript is identical.

Select the browser receiver explicitly.
The documented readonly-row command omits ORACLE_RECEIVER=browser. The helper defaults non-query-* mutations, including readonly-row, to core, so the command does not run the stated browser receiver.
