Stacked on #462; merge that first.

Summary

Ports ocmgr-mobile #46 (persist the React Query cache) and #47 (restore the signed-in session offline) to the PWA.

Persisted cache (lib/queryPersistence.ts, contexts/QueryCachePersistenceContext.tsx, App.tsx)

  • Allowlisted, successful queries are written to localStorage (ocm.query-cache.v1) with @tanstack/react-query-persist-client and the sync storage persister, at most once per second. A full quota drops the oldest query.
  • Allowlist: repos, reposGitStatus, session-pins, opencode-servers, opencode/sessions, opencode/session, opencode/active-work-sessions, opencode/projects, and opencode/vcs/.../info.
  • Never persisted: settings (OpenCode server auth and API keys), provider credentials and auth methods, passkeys, schedules (client secrets), transcripts, and anything else not on the list.
  • Data expires after 24h, and allowlisted roots get a matching gcTime.
  • The restore runs only once signed in, with buster <origin>|<userId>, so another account's cache is discarded. Queries wait for the restore (IsRestoringProvider). Signing out, or a different user signing in, clears memory and storage.
  • TanStack Query moves from 5.90 to 5.101.2 so the persist packages share one query-core, matching the native app's pin.

Offline session restore (lib/authSession.ts, AuthContext, protectedLoader)

  • The validated user (id, email, name only) is saved as ocm.auth.user on each successful session read.
  • When the session read fails transiently (network error, timeout or 5xx), the saved user stands in, so a cold start opens with cached lists instead of the login page. A successful read with no user, or a 401, removes the saved user and signs out as before.
  • Logout clears the saved user, the persisted cache and the in-memory client.

Cached lists survive failed refetches (RepoList, SessionList, RemoteProjectList)

  • Errors show only when there is no data, and loading shows only while pending without data, so cached data stays visible offline.

Type of Change

  • Bug fix
  • New feature
  • Refactor
  • Documentation

Checklist

  • Code follows project style (no comments, named imports)
  • TypeScript types are properly defined
  • Tests added/updated (80% coverage target)
  • pnpm lint passes locally (0 errors; 41 existing warnings in backend/src/routes/repos.test.ts)
  • pnpm typecheck passes locally

Validation

  • cd frontend && pnpm typecheck: clean
  • cd frontend && pnpm exec vitest run: 301 files, 3831 tests passed
  • cd frontend && pnpm build: succeeds, sw.js emitted
  • Not verified in a browser: an offline cold start of the installed PWA (service worker shell plus the restored cache) needs a device check

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Previously loaded repository, project, and session data can be restored from a saved cache.
    • Validated sign-in details can be retained through temporary session-check failures. Cached data is separated by account and cleared on sign-out.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Previously loaded repositories and projects remain visible when a refresh fails.
    • Search controls remain available while session data is loading or being restored. Initial loading and error states display more accurately, including when cached data is available.

Walkthrough

The frontend adds stored-user session recovery and user-scoped query-cache persistence. Authentication and persistence providers coordinate restoration and clearing. Repository, remote-project, and session views use pending state and cached data to select loading, error, and content states.

Changes: Session and Query Cache Persistence

Layer / File(s) Summary
Stored auth profile and protected routes
frontend/src/lib/authSession.ts, frontend/src/lib/persistentStorage.ts, frontend/src/lib/auth-loaders.ts, frontend/src/lib/auth-loaders.test.ts, frontend/src/lib/authSession.test.ts
Auth helpers validate and store user profiles. Protected routes use a stored profile during transient session failures and clear it before redirecting for non-transient results without a user.
Query-cache persistence policy
frontend/package.json, frontend/src/lib/queryPersistence.ts, frontend/src/lib/queryPersistence.test.ts, frontend/src/lib/queryInvalidation.ts
Defines allowlisted successful queries, user-scoped cache busters, throttled storage, retry behavior, 24-hour cache defaults, and shared active-work query-key usage.
Auth and query-cache lifecycle
frontend/src/contexts/AuthContext.tsx, frontend/src/contexts/AuthContext.test.tsx, frontend/src/contexts/QueryCachePersistenceContext.tsx, frontend/src/contexts/QueryCachePersistenceContext.test.tsx, frontend/src/App.tsx
The auth context resolves users from the session or stored profile and clears auth data on logout. The persistence provider restores and saves user-scoped query data, and the app mounts it inside the auth provider.
Cached-data loading and error rendering
frontend/src/lib/queryState.ts, frontend/src/lib/queryState.test.ts, frontend/src/components/repo/RepoList.tsx, frontend/src/components/repo/RepoList.test.tsx, frontend/src/hooks/useOpenCodeServers.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useRemoteProjects.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useRemoteProjects.test.tsx, frontend/src/components/servers/RemoteProjectList.tsx, frontend/src/components/servers/__tests__/RemoteProjectList.test.tsx, frontend/src/components/navigation/RemoteProjectNav.tsx, frontend/src/components/navigation/RemoteProjectNav.test.tsx, frontend/src/pages/RemoteProject.tsx, frontend/src/pages/__tests__/RemoteProject.test.tsx
Repository and project views retain available data after failed refetches and distinguish initial loading from error states. Remote-project loading indicators remain visible while the server list or cache is loading.
Session-list loading and cache retention
frontend/src/hooks/useOpenCode.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useSessionSearch.ts, frontend/src/components/session/SessionList.tsx, frontend/src/components/session/SessionList.test.tsx, frontend/src/components/navigation/DesktopSessionTree.test.tsx, frontend/src/components/session/SessionPickerDialog.test.tsx, frontend/src/components/session/SessionPickerSheet.test.tsx, frontend/src/hooks/useOpenCode.test.tsx, frontend/src/hooks/useVcsInfo.ts
Unfiltered session-list queries use the persisted-cache maximum age and expose pending state to the session list. Session-list tests cover loading during page fetches and cache restoration.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Include allDirectories in the isPending condition.

The query is enabled when uniqueDirectories.length > 0 || allDirectories. The new isPending expression checks only uniqueDirectories.length > 0. When allDirectories is true and directories is empty, the query is enabled and loading, but isPending is false.

useSessionSearch forwards this value. Any caller that passes allDirectories: true loses its initial-loading state and can show an empty state while the first page loads. Use the same enabled condition for both.

Guard the window.localStorage access in the default parameters.

The default value window.localStorage is evaluated when the function is called. In browsers with blocked storage, reading window.localStorage throws a SecurityError.

  • createQueryCachePersister runs inside useMemo in QueryCachePersistenceProvider. The exception propagates during render and reaches the route error boundary.
  • clearPersistedQueryCache reads the default outside its try block. The exception aborts logout before queryClient.clear() and signOut run.

Resolve the storage in a helper that catches the error and returns null. Both functions already accept null.

🛡️ Proposed fix

Add this helper above createQueryCachePersister:

function resolveBrowserStorage(): QueryCacheStorage | null {
  if (typeof window === 'undefined') return null
  try {
    return window.localStorage
  } catch {
    return null
  }
}

Then change both default parameters:

-  storage: QueryCacheStorage | null = typeof window === 'undefined' ? null : window.localStorage,
+  storage: QueryCacheStorage | null = resolveBrowserStorage(),

Based on learnings: wrap localStorage access in try-catch and degrade gracefully instead of letting the exception propagate.

Stop the retryer when no queries remain.

If storage.setItem keeps throwing, the sync persister retries while the retryer returns a client. An empty client must return undefined; otherwise the synchronous loop can block the UI.

In the persistence callback that reads persistedClient.clientState.queries,
return undefined when queries is empty before continuing the retry logic. Update
the retry test to make a fourth call and assert that it returns undefined for an
empty client.

Render a loading state while the server list restores.

When serversLoading is true and the URL has a directory, the content conditional at lines 123-160 renders null. The project page then has no loading or project content until restoration finishes. Add a loading branch before the missing-server branch.

Base automatically changed from feat/mobile-sessions-sheet to main October 24, 2026 23:24
…sion offline

Allowlisted query data is persisted to localStorage for 24h, scoped to the origin and user and cleared on sign-out. The last validated user is remembered so a cold start opens with cached lists when the session check fails on the network, while a 401 or signed-out response still signs out. Lists keep cached data when a refetch fails.
Persist only data that survives a JSON round trip, bound both the age and
the size of what is written, and stop a restore from being read as a
missing or empty list.

- Drop the repository git status rule: its `Map` data serializes to `{}`,
  so a restored cache made `gitStatuses.get` throw. Round-trip every
  remaining rule through the real persister to catch class-backed data.
- Persist only the unfiltered session list and give just that list the 24h
  gcTime; a search key keeps the default and is collected when unused.
- Set the 24h gcTime in the vcs info query options instead of a prefix
  default, so vcs status and diff keep their normal gcTime.
- Drop the oldest half of the persisted queries per retry pass instead of
  one per pass, sorting once per save, and cap infinite queries to their
  first page before the write.
- Build the session-pin and active-work rules from the shared keys.
…nd show remote project loading

The drop-oldest retryer returns undefined once no query is left, ending the sync persister's retry loop. A throwing localStorage getter yields no persister instead of a crash. useSessionsAcrossDirectories reports isPending under the same condition it enables the query. RemoteProject renders a loader while the server list restores instead of a blank body.
… is paused offline

A paused initial fetch kept showsInitialLoading true, so the remote project page showed a spinner until connectivity returned. The hook now exposes isPaused and excludes paused fetches from initial loading; the project page, project list and sidebar show an offline card with Retry instead of a missing-server state, while cached server data still wins.
