feat: add agent setup and machine-readable CLI reference - #85
Adds polymorfa agent setup with client detection, dry-run, consent and repeatable native marketplace installation. Exports deterministic metadata for 381 public commands for the Docs reference.
Head 5dc68f589e2b8a7d2f0c02e548b508ae5ad34679 is on accepted main a9a19cd6. It fixes Windows shell-argument warnings and the verified timeout/overflow lifecycle gap. The 120-second work deadline is preserved, owned-tree cleanup is bounded to five more seconds, failures cannot report installed, and output stays within one MiB of UTF-8. POSIX retains direct arguments and existing consent protections.
Verification: all 1,141 tests (54 focused process/setup tests), formatting, lint, typecheck, build, 381-command reference, four metadata tests, package dry-run and audit (0 vulnerabilities) pass locally on Node 24.15.0. Fresh hosted Node22 verification also passed all 1,141 tests and audit. The native Windows lifecycle job passed both real .cmd→Node timeout/overflow cases on Windows Server 2025 / Node 22.23.4, asserting both owned fixture PIDs are gone and setup reports failure. Synthetic merge 5e945651 and this head have identical tree 476324222e544f8262190e78d2c339943368964a.
Actionlint v1.7.12 passes both workflows. Ubuntu verification is unchanged; CI adds supersession concurrency and the focused Windows job. The publication workflow is byte-identical. Source and evidence checkpoint.
Finding 4396931101 is resolved with native proof. Release retains merge execution and any remaining current-head review gate. The native fixture runs no real agent installer. Native client installation, registry publication and environment acceptance remain separate gates.

Walkthrough
The pull request adds a CLI command to set up supported coding-agent clients, with client detection, installation handling, and bounded process execution. It also adds a generator and verification workflow for versioned CLI reference JSON.
Changes: Agent setup
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Bounded client process execution src/services/agent-setup.ts, test/services/agent-process.test.ts, test/services/agent-process-lifecycle.test.ts, test/windows/agent-process.native.mjs, .github/workflows/ci-hosted.yml, internal/agent-sessions/cli85-windows-lifecycle-20261028.md
The process runner applies platform-specific launch rules, a 120-second deadline, a 1 MiB UTF-8 stdout limit, and bounded Windows cleanup. Tests cover launch behavior, timeout and overflow handling, and process-tree termination. CI adds a Windows lifecycle job.
Client detection and setup src/services/agent-setup.ts, test/services/agent-setup.test.ts
The service detects supported clients and handles client-specific setup, consent, dry runs, existing installations, marketplace checks, and failures. Tests cover these outcomes.
The command accepts client selection, dry-run, and prompt-bypass options. It detects clients when none are specified and exits with status 1 if setup fails. The README and internal checkpoints describe setup behavior, verification evidence, and release boundaries.
CLI reference
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Reference generation and manifest conversion scripts/cli-reference.mjs, scripts/cli-reference.test.mjs, contracts/cli-reference.json
The generator converts the oclif manifest into sorted reference JSON, excludes hidden entries, and supplies defaults for missing metadata. It writes the reference or checks for stale output. Tests cover visible and hidden metadata.
Reference verification and documentation package.json, README.md
Package scripts build before generating or checking the reference, and verify runs the reference test and check. The README documents the schema and commands.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 5dc68
Windows setup now uses the intended launch form. A narrow native-test race and a documentation error remain; neither establishes a material setup failure, so the change is mergeable with those fixes or explicit acceptance.

writeFile writes directly to contracts/cli-reference.json. If the process stops during the write, the file can be left truncated. A reader, or the --check run that follows, then sees a partial file. Write to a temporary file in the same directory. Then rename it to the target.
-import {readFile, writeFile} from 'node:fs/promises'+import {readFile, rename, writeFile} from 'node:fs/promises'
Based on learnings: write to a temporary file in the same directory, then rename it to the target via fs.rename.

Update the write path around writeFile to write output to a temporary file in
the target’s directory, then rename it to the target using the promises-based
rename API. Ensure the rename import is available and preserve the existing

Avoid passing an args array together with shell: true on Windows.
On Windows, runProcess calls spawn(binary, [...args], {shell: true}). Node 24 and later emit DEP0190 for this combination. The warning says arguments are "not escaped, only concatenated." Users with the Windows .cmd shims therefore see a deprecation warning on stderr during polymorfa agent setup. One report states that Node has announced the combination will become an error. That change would break every Windows launch.
All arguments are fixed constants without whitespace or shell metacharacters. You can therefore pass one joined command string on Windows and keep the argument vector on POSIX. This keeps direct execution on Linux and macOS, so the timeout kill() still reaches the client.
Update test/services/agent-process.test.ts to match the new spawn call shape.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Limit cancel-in-progress to pull-request runs.
The group key falls back to github.ref for push events on main. With cancel-in-progress: true, a newer push to main cancels the in-progress run for the earlier main commit. That commit then has no completed hosted check. The internal checkpoint says only superseded PR runs are cancelled. The configuration does not match that statement.
