README naturaldelta example shows 16 minutes instead of 17 minutes #476

Closed

Description

@cadenshokat

I ran the example from the README’s “Date & time humanization” section using a local installation of the repository.

This is the code I ran:

import datetime
import humanize

result = humanize.naturaldelta(datetime.timedelta(seconds=1001))
print(result)

I expected the README example and the program output to match. The README currently shows 16 minutes.

The current implementation rounds to the nearest minute, so the example’s expected output appears to need an update to 17 minutes.

The program printed:
17 minutes

The README shows:
16 minutes

A new user following the example could think their installation is behaving incorrectly because the documented result is different.

    This is already covered by #410. I checked current main (a2006ea) on Windows with Python 3.12.15: it returns 17 minutes. The other eight examples in that section also match their documented output.

    Checked with Codex.
