feat(devices): lease simulators and emulators from a Simlock pool (alpha) - #25259
Simlock pools iOS simulators and Android emulators across machines. Until now, T3's Device panel and device tools could only reach devices on a machine T3 manages: local, SSH, or EAS. This PR adds a Simlock device host. It's an alpha behind Settings → Labs, because Simlock is new and unreleased. T3 never installs Simlock: users point it at a gateway they run themselves. It needs Simlock's main at 6316e10 or later (the first with a lease holder's screen and input); a gateway with several workers also wants callstackincubator/simlock#1009.
How it works
Leasing. Opening a device runs T3's own agent-device CLI against the gateway's agent-device front (connect proxy, then open). Simlock's lease HTTP API isn't used for this, because agent-device can't adopt a lease it didn't allocate.
Agents.device_open hands every thread the session bound to that lease, with a stateDir that holds its connection record. It passes no --udid/--serial, because the gateway refuses device selectors. agent-device only accepts installs from the directory open ran in, and device_open names that directory.
Screen and input. Simlock now serves a lease's screen and input to the lease holder (callstackincubator/simlock#1013), in serve-sim's formats on both platforms. The host maps serve-sim's stream.avcc and helper/ws paths to the lease's /v1/leases/<id>/stream and /input routes with the agent token, and the hub proxy now forwards upstream headers on WebSocket upgrades too. A serveSimOnly stream target makes web and mobile treat a Simlock Android lease like iOS: AVCC video, serve-sim touch, key and button messages, and no MJPEG priming. One agent token does everything; there is no operator token.
Panel controls. Simlock has no route for rotation, appearance, text size, device tools or screenshots (these use the host's own simctl/adb), so the rail hides them for Simlock devices and offers Home, plus Back and Recents on Android. Agents can still do all of it through device_open.
Lease lifetime. While T3 tracks a lease it renews it every two minutes, and releases it at the host's age limit. Closing the device or removing the host returns it to the pool. A lease left behind by a crashed server ends on its own one TTL later, so there's no ledger.
Settings. Settings → Devices → Add source → Simlock pool takes the gateway URL, one agent token per environment (stored as a settings secret; Simlock counts every lease made with a token against one requester), a device limit and a lease age limit. The source is hidden until Settings → Labs turns on Simlock.
Verified against the live pool (Simlock fork 4c53f7b = upstream main plus our relay fix, input enabled; 3 iOS and 4 Android workers). With only an agent token, an iPhone 18 Pro and a Pixel 9 lease each streamed 200 application/vnd.simlock.stream+h264 (description, keyframe, delta and meta frames), and their input sockets sent 0x83, then 0x82 screen config (keyboardUnavailable on iOS 27), and took a tap. Server, contract and stream-client tests cover lease and agent binding, stream and input routing, the limit, cleanup after a failed open, renewal and lease loss, the old-client wire split, and serve-sim-only Android playback and input.
Crash fix found in a real-client pass. Simlock routes pass the agent token as a handshake header, which makes the hub proxy dial with the ws package. When that dial is abandoned before it opens (an Android input socket that hung for 10 s), Effect removes its listeners and then closes the socket, and ws emits an error nobody handles, which exits the T3 server. Upstream sockets now always carry an error listener; DeviceHubProxy.stream.test.ts reproduces it.
Device sources settings, redesigned. The Devices page grew one section per host kind, each with its own add button and empty state, and none of it worked with several environments selected (Simlock needs a different token per environment). It is now one Device sources list that follows the scope selector:
One row per source, configured on any selected environment: Local simulators, then SSH machines, EAS and Simlock pools. Add source offers each kind; Edit and a menu (Test connection, Remove) sit on the row.
iOS and Android icons on the right, solid where the platform is available and muted where not, each its own hover target. Local simulators list each machine's answer. A shared source (SSH, EAS, Simlock) gives its answer once with the environments connected to it, and lists which environments have the platform only when they disagree.
Saving an SSH or EAS source writes it to every selected environment. Simlock asks for an agent token per environment.
EAS now reports iOS unavailable on a server with no Expo credential (no saved token, EXPO_TOKEN or eas login), so that shows per environment instead of failing when a device opens.
Environments with devices off are left out. Like every scoped setting, a change reaches the connected environments, and in a project scope the controls are inert.
Before (this PR's earlier revision; main is the same without Simlock)
After, two environments
EAS iOS: one server has no Expo login
Simlock pool added on one of two environments
Local simulators, two machines
Verified in the web client against the fleet gateway: add the host, lease an iPhone 18 Pro and a Pixel 9, tap, Home, Back, and return each to the pool (the gateway lists no leases afterwards). The settings states above were captured with a second, throwaway environment server; EAS with the real Expo account. Not done: a pass in the mobile app (no settings changes there; the stream and input changes are covered by the shared stream-client tests).
Every Android Simlock device open fails with the ffmpeg installation error, including when attaching an existing lease. open runs the Android/nonphysical ffmpeg preflight before boot or attach, but Simlock's run always returns exit code 127; bypass this host-local check for Simlock devices.

Android devices from this host cannot be opened through DeviceService.open: its existing Android/nonphysical preflight calls ready.run(...) to probe ffmpeg and rejects any nonzero exit code before calling devices.boot. All Simlock catalog devices are nonphysical, and this implementation always returns 127, so every Android open fails with a misleading ffmpeg-install error even when the pool is healthy. The Simlock host needs a way to bypass that host-local preflight or satisfy its capability contract.

The unanswered transport concern needs human judgment: plaintext gateway URLs can expose device-control credentials, and the editor does not warn users despite the documentation’s encrypted-transport recommendation.

The description is detailed and covers the problem, the approach, and verification, but it does not follow the template's structure. It has no 'Problem', 'Change', 'Scope and approval', or 'Verification' headings. The 'Scope and approval' section is missing: it gives no link to a triaged issue or maintainer-approved discussion, and no explanation of why this PR qualifies without one. The description also reads as a feature write-up rather than a single underlying problem. Required content is present in substance, but the template is not followed and approval evidence is absent.

Under Scope and approval, link the triaged issue or the discussion with explicit maintainer approval of this direction and scope, including the approval comment. If no approval exists, explain why this change qualifies for an exemption. The author has not said whether this is one underlying problem or several independent changes. The Devices settings redesign and the crash fix in DeviceHubProxy are separate from the Simlock host. Split them into separate PRs, or explain why they must ship together. Keep the existing verification details under Verification, and state what was not checked, which is the mobile app pass. End with the model and harness used, as the template asks.

Release the lease at the configured deadline, not at floored renewal intervals.
maxLeaseMinutes defines how long a lease remains active, including while it is in use. With the minimum value of 5, Math.floor(5 / 2) performs renewals at about 2 and 4 minutes, then calls release at about 4 minutes. The ten-minute gateway TTL does not prevent this early release because the host explicitly closes the lease.

Skip the local ffmpeg probe for Simlock devices.
DeviceService.open probes every nonphysical Android device through ready.run. Simlock catalog devices are nonphysical, and SimlockDeviceHost.run always returns exit code 127. The probe therefore returns DevicePlatformUnavailableError before the Simlock lease opens.
Use a host-kind check for summary.kind === "simlock" or add an explicit capability that disables this local encoder requirement for Simlock hosts.

Warn on non-loopback plain-HTTP gateways without blocking save.
gatewayUrl accepts non-loopback http:// origins. SimlockDeviceHost.request sends the agent token as a bearer token, and the stream upstream sends the operator token as a bearer token. A plain-HTTP gateway can expose and replay these credentials.
Keep plain HTTP available for trusted encrypted tunnels. Add a separate non-blocking warning for non-loopback http: URLs, and recommend HTTPS or an encrypted tunnel in docs/user/devices.md. Do not return the warning from simlockDeviceHostProblem: the editor uses a non-null result to disable Save.
The operator token's whole-pool authority is not established by the server path. The current UI claims that authority, but the server uses the token only for the screen-stream request. The warning remains valid based on the agent token alone.

Resumed. Simlock now gives a lease holder its device's screen and input with the agent token (callstackincubator/simlock#1013), so the operator token and view-only mode are gone. Requires a gateway and workers built from Simlock main at 6316e10 or later.
…pha)
Adds a Simlock device host behind Settings → Beta. Opening a device takes a lease through the gateway's agent-device front, agents drive it through device_open with the session bound to that lease, and the Device panel shows Simlock's watch-only screen stream on web and mobile. T3 never installs Simlock.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
…y when floated
Hosts that route their own streams never encode with serve-emu, so the ffmpeg check no longer blocks their Android emulators. The floating device preview now passes the Simlock view-only state too.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
Simlock now serves a lease's screen and input to its holder (callstackincubator/simlock#1013).
The host maps serve-sim's stream.avcc and helper/ws paths to the lease's stream and
input routes with the agent token, so the operator token and the view-only mode go.
Clients speak serve-sim to Simlock leases on both platforms, and the panel hides the
controls Simlock has no route for (rotation, settings, tools, screenshots).

… the server
Simlock routes send the agent token as a handshake header, which makes the
proxy dial with the `ws` package. When that dial is abandoned before it opens,
Effect removes its listeners and then closes the socket, and `ws` emits an
`error` nobody handles, which exits the T3 server. The proxy's upstream sockets
now always carry an error listener.
The Simlock docs name the minimum Simlock commit, the Device hub, and
`lease.maxPerRequester`, and ask for one agent token per T3 server.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
…h with its own token
With "All environments" selected, adding a Simlock host saved it only to the
primary environment. The host's name, gateway, and limits now save to every
selected environment, and the dialog asks for each environment's agent token,
since Simlock counts leases against the token. The list says which selected
environments still have no token.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
…scope
Device settings were four sections that each treated "All environments"
differently: the hub switches wrote everywhere, versions and simulator status
showed the primary environment, SSH hosts wrote everywhere, and EAS and Simlock
hosts wrote to the primary only.
Settings → Devices is now two cards. "Use devices" and "Agents can use devices"
carry their versions in the description. "Device sources" lists local
simulators, SSH, EAS, and Simlock hosts as rows with one "Add source" menu.
Each row writes to every selected environment and, with several selected,
shows how many are ready, a breakdown by environment, and a line per problem
with its fix. EAS hosts now save to every selected environment too.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
…ronment breakdown
Rows had a long platform sentence and a green "Ready" label. Each source now
shows its iOS and Android icons, dimmed where no environment has the platform
and marked where only some do; hovering them lists each environment. Only
problems and work in progress get text. Environments with devices off are left
out, since the switch above already says so.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
Local simulators list each environment's iOS or Android status, with the reason
when a platform is missing. A shared source (SSH host, EAS, Simlock pool) is
the same for every environment, so its icons say whether it offers the
platform and which environments are connected to it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
…rop their icon tiles
An EAS host reported iOS available on every server, though each server signs in to Expo on
its own. It now reports iOS unavailable where the server has no Expo credential, and a shared
source's platform popover lists the environments that have the platform and the ones that do
not whenever they differ.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
Renewals were counted in whole two-minute steps, so a five-minute lease was
returned at four. Docs now say to reach a gateway over HTTPS or an encrypted
network, since T3 sends the agent token with every request.

## Resolution
15 conflicts, each resolved by the verdict `preflight.mjs` printed for
it. The full record is in `docs/fork/upstream-merge-log.md`
(2026-10-29). The main points:
- **`LegacySidebar.tsx` deleted upstream** (pingdotgg#21039). The deletion is
taken. Its fork deltas (touch long-press, Add project gate) already live
in `Sidebar.tsx` / `SidebarThreadRow.tsx`. The file's paths are removed
from three inventory entries, and the helper only it used is dropped
from `Sidebar.logic.ts`.
- **Composer access mode.** Upstream's simpler composer (pingdotgg#25869) shows
the Access control in three places: the Permissions chip, the
compact-menu section, and the effort-menu section in
`ComposerControlsBar.tsx`. All three are gated on `FEATURES.accessMode`.
`ComposerControlsBar.tsx` is added to `chat-composer-gates`.
- **Sidebar.** Upstream's boring-sidebar project folders are combined
with the fork's browse/closed/subtask filter. Upstream moved the row's
meta line into a `metaLine` variable, and the fork's owner name and
parent/child task links now live inside it.
- **Settings.** The boring-sidebar Labs rows are client settings and are
not gated. Simlock hosts join the `serverBehaviorSettings` rows, and the
`simlock-hosts` search id is mapped to that flag. The new Fallback model
row is hidden together with the default model row
(`defaultModelSetting`).
- **`AGENTS.md`.** Upstream now has agents check user-visible changes in
a real client without asking first. The fork's version says the same,
still pointing at the fork's skills.
- `agentContextBudget.json` uses upstream's numbers, plus the fork's 108
bytes for `ProjectScript.port`. The value `46015` was measured by
running the budget test.
- `pnpm-lock.yaml` was re-derived from upstream's copy.
**Merge stats:** 595 files landed vs 593 in the upstream range (the gap
is explained in the tracker entry). Fork delta: 766 files, unchanged.
## Verification
`verify.mjs` was run in full. These checks pass: duplicate-adds,
tripwires, resolution-check, unsupported-methods, lockfile, fmt, lint,
typecheck, build. In the test step, `web` and `client-runtime` pass. The
same failures as the 2026-10-27 and 2026-10-28 merges remain, each
confirmed failing alone:
- `t3`: `RepositoryIdentityResolver`, `GitVcsDriver`,
`CodexChatGptAuth`, `CodexManagedRuntime` (the known `/tmp` sticky-bit
gap)
- `provider-opencode`: `OpenCodeServerLedger`
## Usable as-is
- Boring sidebar project folders, two-line folder rows, and hiding empty
projects (pingdotgg#21039, pingdotgg#26387, pingdotgg#26391, pingdotgg#26463)
- Simpler composer with grouped controls and effort words (pingdotgg#25869). The
access-mode parts stay gated.
- Pending approvals on their timeline row (pingdotgg#26255); tool call diffs open
in the diff panel (pingdotgg#26304); compaction row timer (3ef1610)
- Many web fixes: chat tables, inline code double-click, numbered
composer lists, image chips, scroll-to-end, tool groups after a
usage-limit pause, long-thread timeline perf (pingdotgg#26727)
- New Claude threads default to Opus 5.5 (pingdotgg#26358)
- PR files: mark viewed with shift-click, and the diff follows the file
tree (pingdotgg#26349, pingdotgg#26730). These are reachable only where the PR surface is
(`pullRequestSurface`).
## Unsupported in Moatless / needs implementation
- **GitHub sign-in through the T3 Code for GitHub app** (pingdotgg#26245):
`sourceControl.signInStart`, `signInWait`, `signInCancel`, `appAccess`.
New `UnsupportedMethodError` entries.
- **Simlock device pools** (pingdotgg#25259, pingdotgg#26706): `device.simlockIdentity`
(new union entry) and the `simlockDeviceHostsEnabled` server setting.
Part of the device hub gap.
- **Fallback model when the default provider is out of usage** (pingdotgg#26164):
the `fallbackModelSelection` server setting cannot be saved, because
`server.updateSettings` is refused. The row is hidden.
- Managing GitHub maintainer edits (pingdotgg#25588): in the pull-request write
family Moatless does not dispatch.
- T3 Connect tunnel usage and T3 Chat account push (pingdotgg#26369, pingdotgg#25931):
relay/cloud, decided out.
- Mobile dynamic workflows in the Agents sheet (pingdotgg#18642) and the mobile
app fixes: mobile against Moatless is unverified.
## Backend behavior to consider reproducing in Moatless
These are listed under _Runtime fixes upstream made to its own server_
in `docs/fork/gaps.md`:
- Falling back to another provider when the default is out of usage
(pingdotgg#26164), and refreshing usage when a turn hits its limit (pingdotgg#26234); no
replay of stale Codex usage limits (pingdotgg#26331)
- Settling a thread at once when its watched PR merges (pingdotgg#26395).
Moatless reads no PR for settlement today, so this is a decision rather
than a fix.
- Loading long thread history in bounded pages (pingdotgg#26240); publishing
local git status before the remote lookup (pingdotgg#21046); releasing completed
PR sweep data (pingdotgg#25177)
- Thread links that outside MCP clients can open (pingdotgg#26642); listing
snoozed threads across projects in one MCP call (pingdotgg#26442)
- Provider approval and subagent fixes: Claude command approvals
(pingdotgg#20145), ACP ID-only approvals (pingdotgg#26647), Cursor subagents (pingdotgg#26592),
OpenCode subagent runtime mode (pingdotgg#26302), Codex shadow-home locks
(c4606e5); shorter remote reconnect and command delays (pingdotgg#25754)
## After merging
- Disable the new upstream workflow: `gh workflow disable
mobile-fingerprint-label.yml --repo soaplabs/t3code`

Simlock pools iOS simulators and Android emulators across machines. Until now, T3's Device panel and device tools could only reach devices on a machine T3 manages: local, SSH, or EAS. This PR adds a Simlock device host. It's an alpha behind Settings → Labs, because Simlock is new and unreleased. T3 never installs Simlock: users point it at a gateway they run themselves. It needs Simlock's
mainat 6316e10 or later (the first with a lease holder's screen and input); a gateway with several workers also wants callstackincubator/simlock#1009.How it works
connect proxy, thenopen). Simlock's lease HTTP API isn't used for this, because agent-device can't adopt a lease it didn't allocate.device_openhands every thread the session bound to that lease, with astateDirthat holds its connection record. It passes no--udid/--serial, because the gateway refuses device selectors. agent-device only accepts installs from the directoryopenran in, anddevice_opennames that directory.stream.avccandhelper/wspaths to the lease's/v1/leases/<id>/streamand/inputroutes with the agent token, and the hub proxy now forwards upstream headers on WebSocket upgrades too. AserveSimOnlystream target makes web and mobile treat a Simlock Android lease like iOS: AVCC video, serve-sim touch, key and button messages, and no MJPEG priming. One agent token does everything; there is no operator token.simctl/adb), so the rail hides them for Simlock devices and offers Home, plus Back and Recents on Android. Agents can still do all of it throughdevice_open.Verified against the live pool (Simlock fork
4c53f7b= upstream main plus our relay fix, input enabled; 3 iOS and 4 Android workers). With only an agent token, an iPhone 18 Pro and a Pixel 9 lease each streamed200 application/vnd.simlock.stream+h264(description, keyframe, delta and meta frames), and their input sockets sent0x83, then0x82screen config (keyboardUnavailableon iOS 27), and took a tap. Server, contract and stream-client tests cover lease and agent binding, stream and input routing, the limit, cleanup after a failed open, renewal and lease loss, the old-client wire split, and serve-sim-only Android playback and input.Crash fix found in a real-client pass. Simlock routes pass the agent token as a handshake header, which makes the hub proxy dial with the
wspackage. When that dial is abandoned before it opens (an Android input socket that hung for 10 s), Effect removes its listeners and then closes the socket, andwsemits anerrornobody handles, which exits the T3 server. Upstream sockets now always carry an error listener;DeviceHubProxy.stream.test.tsreproduces it.Device sources settings, redesigned. The Devices page grew one section per host kind, each with its own add button and empty state, and none of it worked with several environments selected (Simlock needs a different token per environment). It is now one Device sources list that follows the scope selector:
EXPO_TOKENoreas login), so that shows per environment instead of failing when a device opens.Verified in the web client against the fleet gateway: add the host, lease an iPhone 18 Pro and a Pixel 9, tap, Home, Back, and return each to the pool (the gateway lists no leases afterwards). The settings states above were captured with a second, throwaway environment server; EAS with the real Expo account. Not done: a pass in the mobile app (no settings changes there; the stream and input changes are covered by the shared stream-client tests).
