Summary

An end-to-end pass over the running Docker image in Chromium at desktop (1440px), tablet and phone widths, against a scripted provider, found 55 issues. This fixes all but two intentional behaviours.

Data loss and auth

  • Unlinking a local repo deleted its files whenever the repo lived in the workspace repos directory. A local unlink now removes only the Manager row and any workspace alias, and the confirm button reads "Unlink".
  • Auth rate limiting used one shared bucket without a proxy (three bad passwords locked the admin out) and trusted a client-controlled X-Forwarded-For (unlimited guessing). Limits now key on the socket address only; client-supplied forwarding headers are ignored. Behind a reverse proxy all clients share the proxy's address, so failed sign-ins there cause short shared delays rather than unlimited guessing.

Sessions and composer

  • Composer text, bash mode and attachments carried into whichever session was opened next. Drafts are now per session in memory, a sent draft is cleared even if the session was switched mid-send, and Escape no longer clears the prompt.
  • Failed tool calls rendered as success: a non-zero shell exit and failed members of an exploration group now show as failures.
  • The floating Clear button covered the slash and mention lists.
  • @ mentions offered hidden internal and primary agents.
  • Two composer menus could stack on mobile.

Voice

  • Voice failures always read "Something went wrong". The specific message is shown, with guidance for microphone permission, and a "Starting" state covers the gap before capture begins.

Settings and navigation

  • Escape in a dropdown or the shortcut recorder closed the entire Settings dialog; the recorder also saved Escape as a binding. Duplicate shortcuts now unbind the previous action, and a Reset to defaults control was added.
  • Mobile deep links to a Settings section opened the menu. Each platform now mounts one content tree, which also removed duplicate field ids.
  • Closing a sheet, Settings, a tool panel or a schedule dialog left a dead history entry.
  • After login the app always landed on /. The requested page is carried through the redirect, with same-origin validation.
  • Signed-out routes fetched authenticated endpoints.
  • Malformed session ids and unknown repo or route ids were a dead end; all render a not-found state with a way back.

Schedules and source control

  • Schedule dialogs reopened after create or delete, and a reopened delete could target a different job. The URL hook now composes same-tick updates and the delete dialog names the job.
  • Unpushed commits were never detected (git log --not --remotes without a positive revision), so every commit showed "Remote".
  • A failed commit erased the message; it is now cleared only on success.
  • Per-file stage and discard were hover-only, and untracked directories rendered as ".ocm/ .ocm".

Files, terminal and panel

  • Unknown-extension binaries opened as editable text. The backend now sniffs content and offers download only.
  • Action terminals closed before their output could be seen. The Manager retains and replays PTY output, so quick actions show output and stay open.
  • Closing a terminal sent a second DELETE and left an empty panel.
  • Docker's embedded DNS listener appeared as a preview port.
  • The docked tool panel squeezed the page at 768-1100px. It resizes when docked and floats as a dismissible sheet when there is no room.

Container and housekeeping

  • The image runs tini as PID 1, so orphaned git processes are reaped.
  • Git commands log one debug line instead of six info lines, and a missing upstream is no longer logged as an error.
  • The worktree tests no longer hardcode master as git's default branch.
  • Add-repo and invalid-branch errors return 4xx with short messages, and a search with no matches shows a search-aware empty state.
  • Placeholder contrast, accessible names for icon-only controls, TTS task-list sanitising, permission mode wording and dialog focus, schedule switches, mobile repo sort/filter/select cues, the More-tab unread badge, the sidebar resize affordance and the Toggle Sidebar shortcut.

Validation

  • pnpm typecheck and pnpm lint: clean, 0 errors (41 pre-existing warnings)
  • Tests: frontend 3730, backend 4011, CLI 503, all passing
  • Image rebuilt from the branch and checked in Chromium at desktop, tablet and phone widths: unlink keeps files; rotated X-Forwarded-For (and a spoofed internal IP header) no longer bypasses the limiter while a client on another address still signs in; action terminals show their output in 3/3 runs; schedule dialogs stay closed; Escape during shortcut recording keeps Settings open; login returns to the deep link with no signed-out requests; the floating panel dismisses with Escape and outside click; no horizontal overflow or console errors.

Not included

  • Desktop Enter-to-send and the OpenCode Agent default commit identity are unchanged; both appear intentional.
  • Action and setup commands start 300ms after the PTY spawns so output capture is attached first. Captured output lives in Manager memory, so a finished terminal loses its output after a Manager restart.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Terminal output is retained for late connections, and shell tabs receive sequential titles.
    • Tool panels can dock or float, with resizing and improved mobile behavior.
    • Composer drafts persist per session, including text and attachments.
    • Sign-in returns to the requested page; voice status distinguishes startup and failure types.
    • Change walkthroughs show when there are no changes and identify helper sessions.
    • Keyboard shortcuts can be reset to defaults.
    • Unread schedule badges appear in mobile navigation when needed.
  • Improvements
    • Repository errors provide clearer feedback, and unlinking local repositories preserves their files.
    • Invalid Git identity emails are flagged before saving; binary files are identified more accurately.
    • Shell failures, missing content, and form requirements are communicated more clearly.
    • Dialogs and panels behave more consistently with browser navigation, and controls include accessibility improvements.
    • Voice playback errors provide clearer feedback, and repository and session errors offer helpful recovery options.

Critical and high:
- repos: unlinking a local repo removes only the Manager reference and alias,
never the repository files; confirm button reads "Unlink"
- auth: rate-limit by the socket address; trust proxy headers only when
AUTH_TRUSTED_PROXY_HEADERS is set (documented and forwarded in compose)
- composer: per-session in-memory drafts (text, bash mode, attachments);
Escape no longer clears the prompt
- url params: compose same-tick updates so schedule dialogs stay closed after
create/delete; delete dialog names the job

Medium:
- tool rows show failures (non-zero shell exit, failed exploration members)
- voice conversation shows the specific error and a starting state
- settings: Escape in dropdowns and the shortcut recorder no longer closes
the dialog; mobile deep links open the requested section; one content tree
  per platform
- closing pushed sheets, settings, tool panels and schedule dialogs goes back
  in history
- login returns to the requested page; signed-out pages make no
  authenticated requests
- action terminals keep their output (Manager-side output capture and replay)
- unpushed-commit detection, commit message kept on failure
- binary files with unknown extensions are detected and not editable
- tool panel resizes when docked and floats as a dismissible sheet when the
  page is too narrow
- Docker image runs tini as PID 1

Low: not-found states, add-repo and branch validation errors (4xx),
search-aware empty states, mobile repo sort/filter/select cues, sidebar
resize affordance and collapse shortcut, mobile unread badge, preview port
filtering, terminal close handling, walkthrough empty state and helper
session filtering, placeholder contrast, permission labels and focus,
TTS task-list sanitizing, git identity email validation, quieter git
logging, hermetic worktree tests, and accessible names for icon-only
controls.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request updates backend services and frontend workflows. It adds terminal output replay, per-session composer drafts, and voice failure states. It also changes authentication, repository handling, navigation, forms, settings, and several interface controls.

Changes: Backend and runtime

Layer / File(s) Summary
Container startup and authentication IP
Dockerfile, backend/src/auth/*, backend/src/routes/auth.ts
The image installs tini and runs the entrypoint through it. Auth routes replace any supplied socket-IP header with the connection address when available.
Terminal hubs and lifecycle
backend/src/services/terminal-hub.ts, backend/src/services/terminal.ts, backend/test/services/terminal*
Terminal hubs retain and replay output, track cursors, retry upstream connections, queue input, and manage connected peers. Terminal services create hubs for terminals and dispose of them on removal.
Repository, file, Git, and route behavior
backend/src/services/repo.ts, backend/src/services/files.ts, backend/src/services/git/GitService.ts, backend/src/routes/*, backend/src/services/preview/ports.ts
Repository input and branch errors use 400-status errors; deletion distinguishes local aliases, worktrees, and cloned repositories. Unknown file extensions use content-aware MIME detection. Git log checks use the selected revision, and loopback matching accepts only 127.0.0.1. Route errors use mapped statuses.
Walkthrough sessions and validation
backend/src/db/change-walkthroughs.ts, backend/src/services/change-walkthroughs.ts, backend/src/routes/change-walkthroughs.ts, shared/src/schemas/*
Walkthrough state reports whether changes exist and exposes helper-session IDs. Git identity emails are trimmed and validated.
Supporting backend updates
backend/src/utils/*, backend/test/*, backend/test/scripts/docker-config.test.ts, e2e/fixtures.ts
Git command details move to one debug message. Discovery URLs strip a trailing /v1. Tests cover the changed behavior, and E2E console handling no longer filters selected unauthorized errors.

Frontend behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Routing and URL history
frontend/src/App.tsx, frontend/src/lib/auth-loaders.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useUrlParams.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useDialogParam.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useScheduleUrlState.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useSettingsDialog.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useMobileTabBar.ts
Authentication redirects preserve validated return targets. Dialog and sheet closures restore prior URL state when an opener is recorded. Not-found views use a shared component.
Tool panels and repository navigation
frontend/src/hooks/useToolPanel*, frontend/src/components/navigation/ToolSidePanel.tsx, frontend/src/pages/*
Panels use available width to dock or float. Docked panels can be resized. Floating panels support focus handling, Escape dismissal, and backdrop dismissal. Repository pages use the new layout state.
Composer, walkthroughs, and voice
frontend/src/stores/composerDraftStore.ts, frontend/src/components/message/PromptInput.tsx, frontend/src/hooks/useChangeWalkthrough.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useSessionSearch.ts, shared/src/opencode/voiceConversation.ts
Composer state persists by session and clears after successful matching sends. Walkthrough helper sessions are excluded from session search. Voice failures record their source, and capture startup is surfaced in the voice interface.
Settings, forms, and session behavior
frontend/src/components/settings/*, frontend/src/components/schedules/*, frontend/src/components/repo/*, frontend/src/pages/SessionDetail.tsx
Forms display missing requirements and validate email or repository URL input. Settings and schedule dialogs update URL and overlay behavior. Session pages display not-found states and place the jump-to-latest control outside the composer.
Status, terminal, and interface controls
frontend/src/components/terminal/TerminalPanel.tsx, frontend/src/components/message/*, frontend/src/components/file-browser/*, frontend/src/components/source-control/*, frontend/src/components/ui/*
Terminal removal is guarded against duplicate requests. Shell exit codes and exploration failures appear in status displays. Controls gain accessible names, and responsive panel, sidebar, and placeholder styles change.

Check the requested commit, not HEAD.

If getCommitDetails receives an unpushed commit from another local branch, this HEAD-scoped search excludes it. The response then reports unpushed: false. Pass commitHash as the revision so the check covers the requested commit. Git excludes commits reachable from remote-tracking branches from this query. (git-scm.com)

Choose a shell title that is not already in use.

If Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 exist, closing Terminal 1 makes this count generate Terminal 2 again. The two tabs then have the same title. Select an unused number from the existing shell titles instead of using their count.

Recheck removal state after refetch completes.

If an exit starts refetch and the user then starts a manual close, this check runs before the removal begins. When refetch resolves, exit handling dismisses the terminal, but performRemove skips the duplicate request. If the manual removal fails, neither path restores the dismissed terminal. Recheck removingTerminalIdsRef before dismissing the terminal.

Preserve files that contain sparse invalid UTF-8 bytes.

If an unknown-extension file contains one 0xFF byte among 100 ASCII bytes, this ratio stays below 0.1. getFile then reads the file as UTF-8 and returns base64 containing a replacement character instead of the original byte. Classify invalid UTF-8 as binary, while allowing an incomplete character at the sample boundary. Add a test without a NUL byte that checks the returned bytes. As per coding guidelines, “Test coverage: 80% minimum”; the new binary cases do not exercise this classification path.

Expose the unread state to assistive technology.

When a tab has unread schedule runs, its only unread indicator is an empty, aria-hidden span. A screen reader therefore announces “More” or “Schedules” without the unread state. Add conditional screen-reader text or an accessible description when tab.badge is true.

Associate missing requirements with the affected fields.

When Name is empty, the footer displays “Required: name,” but GeneralTab’s Name input has no invalid state or reference to this message. The new aria-describedby is on the disabled submit button instead. Mark each affected field invalid and associate it with its requirement text, including the prompt field when it is empty. Based on learnings, visible input errors need an exposed invalid state and an accessible association with the error text.

backend/src/services/terminal-hub.ts: 1

174-177: 🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Close attached peers when the hub enters the failed state.

TerminalService.connect attaches clients while the hub is still connecting, because isAvailable() is true in that state. If the last connect attempt then fails, retryOrFail sets state = 'failed' but leaves those peers in subscribers. write returns early in the failed state. The attached clients therefore receive no output and no close frame, and they never reconnect. Reconnecting would let TerminalService.connect dispose the failed hub and use the direct bridge. pendingInput also keeps queued bytes that nothing will send.

Close the subscribers with an error code and clear the input queue when the hub fails.

This page now passes showRail to useToolPanel. When the viewport is desktop-sized but too narrow to dock (showRail true, docked false), useToolPanel moves ?dialog=<tool> into ?panel=<tool> in an effect.

The dialogs at Lines 88-107 still use open={!docked && ...}. On the first render after ?dialog=files is set, FileBrowserSheet opens. The effect then rewrites the URL and the sheet closes. The user sees a flash of the dialog, and focus moves into it and back out.

Use !showRail for these dialogs, so only mobile uses dialogs. Then docked is no longer needed here. RepoDetail.tsx, RemoteProject.tsx, and Repos.tsx have the same pattern.

Accept configured IP headers only from a trusted proxy.

When AUTH_TRUSTED_PROXY_HEADERS is set, this function retains those headers for every socket peer. Both Compose files publish port 5003 on all host interfaces by default. A client that reaches that port directly can set X-Forwarded-For to a different value on each login attempt, bypassing IP-based rate limiting even if the intended proxy overwrites the header. Accept proxy headers only from verified proxy peers, or block direct access to the backend when this setting is enabled. (docs.docker.com)

Based on learnings: use socket-peer verification for trusted headers, or block direct access to a sanitizing proxy.

Update the client IP resolution flow around getTrustedProxyHeaders so configured
forwarding headers are used only when the socket peer is verified as a trusted
proxy; otherwise derive the client IP from the socket peer and ignore those
headers.

… drafts after unmount

- auth: drop the AUTH_TRUSTED_PROXY_HEADERS opt-in. Configured headers were
trusted from any peer, so direct access to the published port could still
rotate them. Better Auth now reads only the Manager-set socket address
header; the env, compose forwarding, docs and tests are removed.
- composer: a send that completes after the composer unmounted (session
switched mid-send) left the submitted text in the per-session draft store.
Sends now complete through mutateAsync and clear the stored draft only if
it still matches what was submitted, so newer edits are kept.

CodeRabbit Review Follow-up

Both review threads were verified locally and addressed in dabe7509.

  • IP headers from untrusted peers (backend/src/auth/client-ip.ts): the AUTH_TRUSTED_PROXY_HEADERS opt-in was removed rather than extended with proxy CIDR configuration. Better Auth now reads only the header Manager sets from the socket address; client copies are overwritten.
  • Sent draft restored after unmount (frontend/src/components/message/PromptInput.tsx): sends complete through mutateAsync, and the stored draft is cleared only if it still matches what was submitted, so newer edits are kept.

Files modified:

  • backend/src/auth/client-ip.ts, backend/src/auth/index.ts
  • shared/src/config/env.ts, .env.example, docker-compose.yml, docker-compose.release.yml
  • frontend/src/components/message/PromptInput.tsx, frontend/src/stores/composerDraftStore.ts
  • Tests for both

Validation: typecheck and lint clean; frontend 3730, backend 4011 tests pass; image rebuilt and checked with two clients on separate addresses (spoofed headers limited after 3 attempts, the other client signs in).

An endpoint saved as http://host/v1 was turned into /v1/v1/audio/transcriptions
and every transcription returned 404. Strip a trailing /v1 when deriving the
server base URL, which also covers TTS and model discovery.
iOS rejects play() outside a user gesture unless the same media element was
already played inside one. Each chunk used a new Audio element, so replies in
voice mode failed with "Reading the reply failed".

- reuse one audio element for all external TTS playback
- add tts.unlock(), which plays a short silent clip on that element, and call
it from the voice mode start and orb taps
- route every playback failure through failPlayback(message) and pass the
message to onEnd so voice mode shows the underlying reason
- report a blocked play() as "Audio playback was blocked by the browser"

Match the mobile app: while the transcript is scrolled up, show a centered
round button above the composer instead of swapping the mobile composer tools
button for an arrow and hiding the desktop arrow when the prompt has text.

The composer tools menu now stays available on mobile at all times, and the
desktop in-composer arrow is gone.
The supported floor is derived from the pin, so this raises the accepted
range to >=2.1.2 <3.0.0 for the bundled image, managed installs, and the
version check that gates startup.

- Dockerfile ARG OPENCODE_VERSION and the shared pin move together
- CI e2e installs 2.1.2 instead of 2.0.24
- contract, installer, manager, registry and settings fixtures follow the new
floor, keeping their below-floor and wrong-major rejection cases
The repository keeps code self-documenting, and the helper names and the
voice flow call sites already describe what unlock primes.

A stored identity email that failed the stricter rule made every settings
read fall back to defaults, and the next save persisted that reset.

- the stored preferences schema accepts any email string again
- PATCH /api/settings rejects an invalid gitIdentity or gitIdentities email
with a field path, and saves the trimmed address
- the rule accepts local hosts such as root@localhost
The runtime pin moved to 2.1.2 while @opencode/client stayed at 2.0.15, so
the shared typed contract no longer matched the server.

- @opencode/client and @opencode/plugin move to 2.1.2
- session projection follows the 2.1 event shape (native replaces
providerState and state, compaction drops recent)
- worktree error stubs carry the _tag discriminator
- the contract test fails when the SDK version drifts from the pin
…hem by handshake

- only action and setup terminals get a hub; shells use the shared bridge
  and keep OpenCode's full replay
- upstream close 1000 or 4404 ends the stream with that code; any other
close fails the hub with 1011 so viewers reconnect through the bridge
- each connect attempt times out, and pre-open input overflow closes with
  1013 instead of dropping keystrokes
- deferred commands wait for a release line instead of sleeping; the hub
sends it once on open, and the bridge fallback sends it if the hub failed
